Omid Satellite shows Iran’s achievements

TEHRAN - Foreign Ministry spokesman Hassan Qashqavi said here Wednesday that the Tuesday launching of Omid (Hope) Satellite was another show of Iran’s achievement.
“Fortunately, the Islamic Revolution’s victories and achievements showcased yet another aspect of a series of accomplishments to the Iranian nation and the world public opinion with yesterday’s launching of national Omid Satellite by Safir-2 (Messenger-2) satellite carrier,” Qashqavi told Iranian and foreign reporters in his weekly press briefing, IRNA reported.
Qashqavi said that undoubtedly the conquest of high peaks of science and technology in line with peaceful and humanitarian goals is among the sublime goals of the Islamic Revolution.
He said inaccessible goals have become accessible thanks to the endeavors of scientists.
Iran launched its first home-built satellite into orbit on Tuesday as part of celebrations to mark the 30th anniversary of the victory of Islamic Revolution in Iran.
The Omid (Hope) lightweight telecommunications satellite was sent into space by the Iranian-produced satellite carrier Safir 2.
President Ahmadinejad gave an order for the launch and hailed the move as a new achievement written in history.
“Dear people of Iran, your children have sent Iran’s first domestic satellite into orbit... May this be a step toward... justice and peace,” said Ahmadinejad.
Meanwhile, Minister of Defense Mostafa Mohammad Najjar said the successful launching of Omid satellite proved the power of the Islamic system in Iran and nullified any claimed effect of the sanctions imposed on Iran by certain countries.
Making the remarks on the sidelines of a congress on Wednesday dubbed as “Scientific power means National power”, the minister said the Iranian nation was already emerging as a role model for all freedom-seeking and independent nations worldwide, telling them to rely only on their own resources and capabilities in their movement towards progress.
He said the young Iranian scientists managed the project because they strongly believed that they are capable of accomplishing every task.
He said the launching of the satellite once again proved the uselessness of enemies’ sanctions.
In another development, Rapporteur of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Kazem Jalali said on Wednesday that the launching of Omid satellite has brought dignity and pride to the Iranian nation.
He said the successful launching of the satellite put a seal of approval on the fact that the prime goals of the Islamic Revolution have been materialized.
Referring to allegations made by Iran’s ill-wishers who claimed that Iran suffers lack of technical and scientific apparatus, the event put an end to such comments and indicated that the country is among a handful of countries with such advanced technological know-how, Jalali said. This scientific breakthrough has raised the prestige of the Islamic Republic in the region as well as the entire globe, he concluded.
