...... It's likely that any attack on Iran by the west on Iran, would trigger a war between Hizbollah and Israel.
Despite the loud rhetoric from Tehran and all the military maneuvers, the coming war would not be won by the Islamic Republic. Iran will be able to cause major caos
and considerable casulaties, but its forces on the ground and their ability to communice will be desimated by the allies superior air power within weeks. Unlike many people, I believe, in the event of a western military attack which results in major weakening of the Islamic Republic's Basij forces,
the people of Iran are likely to attempt to topple their government. |

Ahmadinejad is increasingly coming under attack at home for defying the Islamic Majlis (Parliament). The Islamic Republic is more divided than ever. Some believe that the establishment has decided to get rid of him to save itself, but I personally believe that, with the power base he's already established, he won't go quietly.
As political infighting grows within, the threat of military confrontation still loomes large. The main military threat to the Islamic Republic would be a surprise attack by the US and its allies. Unlike many observers I don't think Israel would take part in such an operation, unless it comes under direct attack from the Islamic Republic. It's likely that any attack on Iran by the west on Iran, would trigger a war between Hizbollah and Israel.

| Well the relations between Turkey & Israel have taken a serious hammering. Interestingly the reaction from Tehran has been not all that vocal. No mass rallies, only a few words by Ahmadinejad. Could it be that the authorities are afraid that any rallies may turn into anti-government protests??!! |

The reactions to the killing and injuring activists on Turkish Flotilla is coming in thick & fast. Turkey recalls embassador from Israel. The under 18 national football team were also called back from Israel. Israel also calls its tourists visiting Turkey.
Beyond the immediate knee-jerk and emotional reactions, this could be one of those deciding moments in history. The AK party will definitely use this to further its own mandate in Turkey and this will probably weaken the secular opposition of Turkey.
Are we going to see a more Islamic and militant Turkey in the future? Is this going to bring Turkey & Iran closer together? What does it mean for the Turkish-US relations? We'll have to wait and see..... |

The chinese government opposes sanctions against Iran and think that diplomacy is the way forward. As if the last 20 years of deplomacy have achieved anything !!!
What can we expect from a country that executes its own peaceful protesters and stifles freedom of press and speech?? The success of Iranian green movement would give fresh inspiration to all freedom seekers whether they're Chinese, North Korean or Venezuelan. Why should they be sympathetic to the plight of Iranians?
What I don't understand is our pathetic and feckless behaviour. We in the west are the victim of our own greed. We have destroyed our industial base and handed over our jobs to china. A double whammy, we get increasing unemployment and we empower a human-rights abusing dictatorship that always works against us! |

IRINN the Iranian news agency is making dire statements about the protestors, interviewing the most conservative elements of the regime. Larijani the Majlis speaker has also made a heated speech asking for maximum punishment for the protestors.
There will be government sponsored protests tomorrow and there's talk of possible arrest of Mousavi & Karoubi after the rallies in support of government.
There's an ominous air of a witchhunt in the air. The government seems to be preparing to a massive crackdown. |

Some people predicted this years ago. A young population increasingly frustrated with the invasive rule of conservative Ayatollahs.
The government of Ahmadinejad and the supreme leader seem to be unwilling to give an inch. The result seems to be more anger and frustration which is reflected in the more radical slogans during demonstrations as seen in the massive gatherings dedicated to the passing of Ayatollah Montazeri. |

Is there going to be an even worst crackdown Moharram? Are the leaders of the green movement going to be arrested? The language used by the authorities seem to suggest that? |

There are new tensions between Iran and Arab states since Ali Akbar Nategh Nouri made comments about the inability of the previous regime to keep Bahrain as part of Iran. Nouri also said that Bahrain used to be Iran's 14th province.
The latest indication of worstening relations between Iran and Arab states was Morocco cutting its diplomatic ties with Iran blaming Tehran's "inadmissible attitude" against the African country as a reason for the decision for the move.
Iran is growing stronger and is gradually transforming into a regional power. Despite reassuring statements by Iranian officials it seems that Arab states see Iran as a threat.
Recent statements by Egyptian, Saudi and the new tensions between Morocco and Iran indicate that Arabs are wary of Iran's new found power and influence. |

The reason behind the arrest of the Iranian Aids doctors is that the Islamic government doesn't want the world to know that there is an Aids problem in Iran.
Many charities have been shut because they were trying to raise money mainly from the Iranians abroad for the poor and needy in Iran. The government prefers to see the poor suffer than get help from Iranians with western connections.
Noone in the world would believe that Arash and Kamyar Alaei were plotting to overthrow the Iranian government.
Jailing two world renowned Aids doctors, and depriving Iranians of such expertise, says so much about Ahmadinejad, his government and his way of thinking. |

Obama will be entering into direct talks with Iran knowing such talks are extremely unlikely to succeed. Apart from the nuclear issue, there are many other disagreements, from Iran's frozen assets in the US to Iran's role in the Middle East particularly in relation to Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon.
Other than a grand bargain with both sides making major concessions, it's hard to imagine how these major differences will be resolved.
Obama's pledge to enter into direct talks with Iran will no doubt go some way in repairing America's reputation as a unilateralist super power to that of responsible leader of the free world that is trying to resolve issues by dialogue. There are too many areas of disagreement and talks are more likely to fail than succeed. However talks with Iran will show America's allies particularly the EU that Obama can not be accused of not trying all avenues to resolve the crisis and it is Iran that is intent on building nuclear weapons and destabilising the Middle East.

Why should Iran listen to anything the west says???
The western countries want to dominate the middle east and for that reason they do not want a powerful Iran or any other country in the region.
This is the first time in at least 500 years that Iran is becoming a major regional force. It doesn'tlook like the US and Europe can do much to stop Iran for the time being.

In Iran we have the so called "moral police" who are imposing their self-styled Hejab on Iranian women. They allow themselves to verbally and physically abuse innocent Iranian women, but more people are starting to fight back.
Hejab was imposed on Iranian women shortly after the Islamic revolution in 1979, despite Ayatollah Khomeini's pledges before the Islamic revolution who always claimed that in a future Islamic Republic, women will be free to dress as they wished. Shortly after the revolution he allowed organised thugs to attack women with knives, blades and acid in the streets in order to enforce the Hejab.
Iranian women have never accepted the Hejab and the way they push the boundaries by pushing their scarves back and wear make up shows that they never will.

Daheye Fajr is the title of the final 10 days of street battles leading to the victory of the Islamic revolution. It is so very depressing to be reminded of it!
My family and I were sitting around the TV watching scenes of angry crowds shouting "marg bar Shah" meaning "Death to Shah" during the 1979 revolution.
You see most of my immediate family supported and took part in the 1979 revolution, yet here they were sat around the TV with tears in their eyes regretting what they had done. "We should have never trusted the Mullahs" said my dad with a shaky voice. "Please change the channel .... put some music channel". I turned the channel over to PMC (Persian Music Channel).
A smile of relief appeared on my Dads face and he said again "we should have never trusted them".......

The Zanan magazine has been shut down by Ahmadinejad. Widespread exclusion of non-conservative (They are not really reformists!) and an increasing atmosphere of intimidation throught the country.
Is there going to be a showdown between the people and the government? if the Iranian economy continues to decline and sanctions bite harder then a showdown is likely. |
